In those early days, it felt like we were all in the same boat—my family and this little business—learning as we went. As consigners brought in more items, the racks multiplied. We added wall space. Then we moved downtown. Each step forward felt exciting and terrifying at the same time, but every time we grew, our boat grew with us.
Customers began asking if they could consign non–plus-size clothing. After a lot of thought, I said yes. When neighboring businesses closed, I expanded again—knocking down walls, renting new spaces, and trusting that our community would continue to show up. And they did. Again and again.
As an Alaska Native business owner, I was also grateful for opportunities to work with youth employment programs, helping Native youth gain customer service and job skills. Over the years, I’ve hired employees when I could—and sometimes when I couldn’t. I’ve also occasionally hired through the rehabilitation programs to help people get back on their feet. This business has always been about more than selling items; it’s about people.
My children grew up here. They learned to count money, help customers, organize inventory, and train employees—long before high school. There were days I put a sign on the door saying I’d be back in 10 or 15 minutes so I could pick them up from preschool. Watching them grow alongside this business has been one of the greatest rewards of my life.
Today, we operate out of more than 4,000 square feet, processing 50,000–60,000 consignment and donation items each year. In 2024, we paid out $149,000 to consigners, and in 2025, $140,000—money going directly back into our local community. We now offer clothing for all sizes and ages, household goods, kitchen essentials, bath and beauty items, retail, and souvenirs—everything our community needs under one roof.
We are deeply grateful for donated items, which allow us to give back by sponsoring kids in sports and music and supporting families in need.
This journey has never been easy, but I was raised to keep a smile on my face and keep going. Every employee, every customer, and every consigner has helped shape who we are today.
After more than sixteen years, I can say this with confidence: we’re still in the boat together—and we’re still growing.
